Storyline: Arc 3: Advancements

Cal was glad that he had made a friend and both Cri and Ki took a liking to Kathy too when he introduced them to her at dinner. They spent days together on the train laughing and talking and when they got off to visit the cities along the route they explored them together.

It was fun, a couple of times Cal avoided the official tours organised by the Compagnie International des Wagons-Lits, the official company that ran the Orient Express and went out to explore the cities on his own. He took Kathy with him a couple of times as well as Ki. Cri always wanted to do the official tours, but Cal wanted to see the real cities and not just the tourist locations and manicured, properly curated locations the train company picked as tour destinations. Sure, those were nice, the museums and opera houses and fancy churches were good, but seeing how the real people lived was important.

Cal met some wonderful people, poor people living every day normal lives. It was humbling and eye opening and the bunny slowly realised that he wasn’t alone in having lifted himself out of nowhere. He had gone from Bunny society where they lacked basic technology to living in Avali society with all their technological splendours. There were humans every day on Earth struggling to do the same thing, with the difference that they didn’t have a rich diplomat pack along with them. There were other incidents too, at least four of the guests on the train were spies, including one of the conductors.

They kept trying to butter them up but Cri and Ki saw them off each time and then they reached the city of Milan. It was a city in Italy, south of the great mountain range known as the Alps and the Orient Express was due to move north from this city and pass through the Simplon Tunnel to Lausanne. It was an engineering masterpiece, a tunnel bored through the earth beneath the mountains and at the time a grand feat of human engineering.

Milan itself sounded fascinating, it was both an ancient city having been founded fifteen hundred years ago. But it was also classed as a new city, having been rebuilt and re-imagined during the 1930s and 1940s and then into what the humans called the modern era of the 1950s and 1970s. The city had seen and been everything from the capital of the Western Roman Empire in antiquity to its modern title as one of the Four fashion capitals of the world.

“I really wish I could come down and see it,” Chantelle said, her voice echoing out of Ki’s visor, her image projected against the wall of their lounge, “The Human Fashion Capital, I want to see it so much,” she sighed, “Anyway I am glad you are all having a good time, that’s the last update from us we’ll see you all in London.”

Ki ended the call and picked up a long mantle, draping it over his shoulders as he turned to the twins, “It was nice of her to call us, it sounds like all we’ve missed so far is some real boring parties.”

“Yeah,” Cal said, “I am glad we got to come down here and escape all of that for a bit we should….”

He was interrupted as an alert went off inside his visor, the screen deploying, from the way Cri and Ki were reacting both of them were receiving the same alert. Their visors synced with the Odyssey as a new connection opened, the whole pack were logging into the broadcast Ifelse had just directed to all of their personal devices.

Cal could see everyone’s icon appearing, Selenu, Taran, Firi, Chantelle, Seinu all of them were logging onto the same nexus broadcast. It must have been important for the AI to flag it to everyone so he went silent and watched as an Avalon newsfeed started to play. There was a serious looking pair of Avali sitting behind a news desk, behind them Illuminate Towers could be seen through a real window, illuminated in orange light as flurries of snow swirled passed.

“Good evening Avalon,” the male news anchor started speaking, “I’m U’brect and this is my sister Talar, the Ragara Pack are happy to bring you this latest update from Sah Kolhiik, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs.”

Talar smiled at the camera, her beautifully arranged crest swaying under the lights, “Secretary Kolhiik has just released a statement concerning the Horker Empire and the latest actions of their King Kyourgawabadi, approximately eighteen hours ago the Illuminate received intelligence that a Horker Task force had landed on Babupekkakerok, the home planet of the Vampire Bunny species (also known as “Babu”). The Horker Empire’s stated intention was to re-garrison the planet and bring it back into the fold of the Horker Empire”

“However,” U’brect interjected, “The discovery of the Babu species as the planet's dominant sapient species not long ago meant that the Horker Empire’s claim on the planet was not a foregone conclusion, and after high level discussions between Illuminate Director Ck’akk Rrskee and Soh Kolhiik and the Babu’s Appointed Diplomat Sher Ouakkia the Babu species has chosen to align with the Avali Illuminate instead of accept a place in the Horker Empire.”

“What is being seen as both a climb down and a canny piece of diplomacy Kyourgawabadi conceded to the Babu species request, acknowledging that while technically under coalition law he had a claim to the planet due to their prior occupation, they had been unaware of the Babu species and in the name of peace recognized their right to self determination under Coalition law and left the planet.”

“After the Horker retreat from the planet Sher Ouakkia negotiated a new treaty with the Illuminate. The Avali shall be sending some of our top specialists to assist in uplifting the Babu species in exchange for initial mining rights to the planet and system.”

“Initial confusion and suspicion from the more conservative wing of the Illuminate Hierarchy Assembly were silenced with the release of a secret mineralogical scan of the planet conducted by the AEV Odyssey one year ago,” Talar cut in with a broad smile, “These scans revealed it is the location of the largest source of Gaberium discovered in the past two centuries, with initial mining and colonisation rights established the cost of uplifting the Babu species is negligible when compared to the sheer wealth awaiting the Illuminate on this planet.”

“We’ll have plenty of analysis in a bit on the situation developing on Babupekkakerok but first we have a verified live recording of the meeting between King Kyourgawabadi and Babu Diplomat, Sher Ouakkia!”

Cal sat down with a thump and watched the video play out, it showed a sea of friends, including Rayen and her team in the power armour Firi had left them all lined up facing off against an army of Horkers. It was a terrifying thing to see so many Not-Friends back on the Land! The recording seemed to be coming from an elevated vantage point just above Daniel’s head as the MMF bassist watched the whole thing play out between Sher and the Horker King. When the recording came to an end Cal pulled off his visor and stared around the room, the studio heads were now chattering away with an analysis of what everything meant but Cal didn’t care to listen.

Wandering out of the room into the corridor Cal stood for a long moment and stared out the window. The Italian countryside was giving way to the outskirts of a city, they were arriving in Milan but his mind was full of thoughts. He had been warned in advance by Selenu that this had happened, that the Not-Friends had returned, they had invaded their home and a bunny had stood up to him and told him no! But to see it now public knowledge, announced not just by the Illuminate but broadcast across Avali space and the Universe by the nexus as news; he wasn’t sure how he felt about this.

The sound of voices reached him from his visor, everyone was now talking to each other now the recording was over but Cal didn’t want to join in. He walked away from their rooms and into the lounge and stood on a chair, watching the city get more dense as they rolled toward the station.

“Hello Cal,” Kathy’s voice cut through his thoughts, “How are you doing today, ready to see Milan?”

“Hmm, oh Kathy,” Cal turned to look at his human friend, “Yes… maybe, I don’t know some real important stuff is happening back home and it just got made public.”

“Oh?” the young human sat down on a chair, “What happened?”

“It is complicated,” Cal frowned, “But also I can’t believe it, the people who once enslaved and killed us came back and tried to conquer us again but our diplomat made them leave and the Avali are helping us to develop as a society.”

“That is amazing news,” Kathy clapped her hands together and smiled, “A real chance for your people to grow and change, led by the Avali I mean that is fantastic.”

Cal nodded and settled back, “Yeah it is… but also like just wow it is so much to take in, I wish we had been there to help.”

“Well that can’t be helped,” Kathy reached out to take one of his paws in her hand and squeezed it, “You are out here living your best life, just be glad everyone is safe and things have gone well,” She went quiet for a moment considering Cal then smiled, “Besides you are helping, you and Cri turned up with the Odyssey, you aren’t just some random vampire bunnies, you are the famous vampire bunny bodyguards of an Avali Diplomat, trained by an Avali Defender, two Avali Defenders if what you’ve told me is true. So you are helping to raise the profile and public awareness of your people by being here.”

“Yeah,” Cal nodded and looked up as the train shuddered to a halt and he jumped down to the floor, “I guess I need to keep doing my bit, and well when we do get to go home we can show everything we’ve seen to our Grandmother and Uncle and the rest of our tribe, encourage them to travel too.”

Kathy nodded and followed him off the train to the platform. Milan Central Station was a beautiful marble building with a curving glass roof. It was properly classical in the ancient style inspired by the Roman empire. Cal thanked Kathy and moved down the platform toward Cri and Ki, they had disembarked from the sleeping car and Ki raised a hand in greeting as they approached.

“There you are,” Cri said, “Did you see the news? It doesn’t feel real that it is all public now.”

“Yeah it is really good that everyone knows now,” Cal replied, “But it is good that everyone back home will get the same chance we had, to be taught by Avali.”

“Yeah,” Cri nodded, “It gives you hope that no bunny will ever have to suffer at the Horkers' hands again.”

“It is very good news,” Kathy said with a nod, the human looking around the platform, “So what are your plans today? Are you still going ahead with your holiday or heading back to orbit?”

“I spoke to Selenu, she’d rather we carry on with our holiday” Ki informed them, “It all happened about a week ago, we sort of already knew but seeing it on the news was just sort of reaffirming that now everyone else knows.”

Kathy nodded and held up her phone, “It is even appearing on some of our human news sites, it’s pretty big news.”

“So we can carry on with our plan for today?” Cri asked, “We have a tour of the opera house booked I really didn’t want to miss.”

“How can you say that,” Cal shouted at his twin, letting all the worry and anxiety about what might have happened to everyone back home spill out of him, “Our home planet was just invaded, everything back home is changing and you are worrying about touring a stupid opera house.”

Cri blinked in surprise and his scent changed to confusion, “What… but we can’t do anything about that here… we might as well try to focus on something nice.”

“Something nice for you,” Cal shouted, “Once again you’ve got it all fucking planned out, from the moment we arrive until the train leaves. YOU made plans, you’ve decided well fuck that, fuck you!”

Cal was being unreasonable but he’d had enough, he swatted Cri’s tablet out of his hands, shattering it into pieces, “I’ve had enough of your plans, of you deciding what I will be doing, fuck your schedule.”

Cal spun around and marched off the platform past the surprised looking humans. He heard Cri call out after him but he ignored him and then heard Ki tell him to wait and let him go. Kathy hurried after him but Cal sped up, walking faster, he bounced through the ticket office and out into the crowded street. He was angry, frustrated and he knew he had exploded, something unthinkable at home. Now he wanted to be alone and also he didn’t want to snap at his human friend right now, he’d talk to them all later. He was stuck a trillion light years from home, everything was changing and still Cri was acting like nothing had changed and making all the decisions for them both. He just… he just couldn’t roll over and accept it any more.

Cri watched his brother storm off, eyes wide and fur frazzled, he hadn’t been expecting that at all, he turned to look at Ki who was frowning, the black and white avali tapping his fingers against his prosthetic arm.

“Where did that come from?” Cri asked with a frown, “I know he’s been a bit on edge but that was…”

“If you don’t know why that happened I can’t help you,” Ki said with a frown, his ears tilted back. Kathy however stomped one foot as she stepped forward before Cri, hands on her hips and glared at him.

“You should flaming know why!” she growled at the vampire bunny, looming over him. The petite human women suddenly seemed very scary, they’d known her for over a week now as they travelled on the train and he thought he knew her quite well. But now she seemed extra scary in a way he had never seen before; her eyes were flashing with anger and her scent was sharp and spiky with annoyance, “You are smart Cri, you spend all your time reading but you have the social awareness of.. Off…” she hesitated, looking around the platform for inspiration then her eyes went wide and she glared back at Cri, “Of a Horker!”

Cri jumped at that, eyes widening in horror but the human didn’t stop or give him a chance to reply, “Now I am going to find your brother, Ki stop being a wet blanket and tell him straight, you’re both as bad as each other. Unbelievable and I thought Avali where smart!”

With that the human twisted around on one foot and power-walked off the platform after Cal. Cri just stood in place frozen and confused and then the anger hit him and he bristled, “Did she just compare me to a HORKER!” he shouted, his voice piping loudly in bunny song, “I am going to…”

He tried to go after her but Ki grabbed the back of his robe stopping him short, “No, you are going to come back to our room with me,” he said firmly, “Selenu and I have been hoping you’d recognize what has been happening on your own, but Kathy is right, I’ve let it go on too long and now we have a flaming mess.”

“What…” Cri gaped up at Ki in surprise, “What do you mean? Cal is just being stubborn and…”

Ki chirped angrily and started back onto the train, clambering up the steps and half dragging Cri with him, “Not out here, all the human spies are watching us.”

Cri followed Cal back to their bedroom and sat on the bed, he was still seething at what Kathy had said and angry with Cal throwing a fit like a youngling. Ki however didn’t seem angry, if anything he seemed disappointed as he pulled the blinds on the window then sat down in the chair and faced Cri. He looked serious and frowned then let out a sigh and pushed his visor up so both his eyes were clear.

“Ok, I can see you are upset, Kathy was very rude, but she was also being human, honest and brutal and going for the jugular and I agree with her.”

Cri gaped at the Avali in shock, “You… I… Ki!”

He held up one hand, “Not about everything, comparing you to a Horker was wrong, but well she was being human, we can’t blame her for that, what I am disappointed in is the fact that it’s been about two months since this started to be a thing and you are still as oblivious to it as the day it began.”

“Cal is just being childish and lashing out…” Cri asserted, “He’ll grow out of it.”

“Yes he is,” Ki replied, “And so are you, when you decided to come live in space what did we decide? About your education?”

Cri frowned, “That you’d raise us like Avali kits, not uplifting like the programs but training and educating us like a nursery pack would the kits in their charge.”

“Exactly,” Ki said, “And part of that is encouraging you to self-reflect, to think about the week and your interaction with your pack-mates,” he waved his cybernetic hand, “To look over the week, to learn and adapt and understand and more importantly work together to ensure you are acting as one pack.”

“I do that,” Cri said with a frown, “What does that have to do with Cal’s outburst?”

“Everything,” Ki said firmly, “Because you don’t do that with Cal, you reflect on your interactions with Firi or Taran, Chantelle and me and Sel and Seinu but you never reflect on your interactions with Cal.”

Cri blinked and tilted his head, “But he’s my brother, we talk every day.”

Ki sighed, “Yes, but you never listen to him, you are still treating him like you are two bunnies living in caves desperate to survive and not get eaten by predators,” Ki leant forward, “That hasn’t been true for over a year now, if not longer but you still treat Cal like you did back then.”

“I…” Cri started, “Well we have, we are both different now!”

“Yes,” Ki said patiently, leaning forward so he could look Cri in the eyes, “You are both independent, you have developed personalities beyond what you needed to survive every day, but you still treat Cal the same way, you decide everything, you lead, you make decisions for the both of you.”

“I… oh…” Cri frowned, “I guess I do don’t I? I have always done that, I never… stopped to think about it.”

“We know,” Ki said softly, placing his organic hand atop Cri’s head and ruffling his hair, “And we don’t blame you, we have been hoping you’d realise on your own but well you aren’t an Avali kit, ignoring an ingrained sense after thirty years isn’t easy.”

“I need to go find Cal,” the bunny said jumping up, “I need to make this good.”

Ki chuckled and gripped Cri’s scarf, “Not so fast, Cal is angry and upset right now, we haven’t finished talking and running after him now won’t help. Kathy will find him, they’ll talk and when he is calmed down we can all talk about this together later, first we need to do some of that self reflection we just mentioned.”

“Ok,” Cri sighed and cradled his head in his paws, “I … have just been carrying on like nothing has really changed,” he sniffled a bit and wiped his nose, “I mean I know Cal has advanced like me, but I just assumed everything else was the same, two brothers facing the universe together.”

“In some respects they have stayed the same,” Ki said, “But in other respects Cal wants things to change, he wants to sit by your side on equal terms not with you leading and he’s right, you aren’t pack-leader, Selenu is.”

Cri sighed and removed his glasses, “I was so focused on all the wonderful things I’ve been able to learn and watching Cal learn the things he wanted to learn I’ve never stopped to think about how this would change our mindsets.”

“More importantly,” Ki said, “Cal doesn’t like to study, not like you, he doesn’t want to wander around a museum learning new things. He wants to see cool sights and fun things and you’ve been ram-roading him into doing everything you want to do.”

“Because I just assumed it was what he wanted too,” Cri said, “I’ve been acting like the leader of a foraging party, instead of acknowledging that he’s his own bunny now.”

“Exactly,” Ki said, “That is an important thing to realise, you aren’t in a survival of the fittest bunny party, you are free and safe in space, you need to let him grow too and let him decide things for himself.”

“I guess his whole world is different and I’ve been ignoring it,” Cri said sadly, “I didn’t want to let that go.”

“Mmhmm,” Ki said, “I may have given you a nudge to realise this and Kathy may have been a bit too direct and human about it, but I trust you can take it from here?”

Cri nodded, “It would help to talk through it together… I… I don’t want Cal to be angry with me, or to act like a Horker!”

Ki nodded and settled back, “Well then, shall we reflect on your interactions with your brother and take it from there?”

Cri nodded and settled down to talk it through with Ki, hoping that his brother would forgive him for being so blind.

Cal was storming through the streets of Milan, not really looking where he was going. Humans moved past him in a blur, each and every one of them lost in their own world, rushing toward their destination without a care for anyone else around them. Even those people moving in groups cared only about their immediate friends or family and completing their journey.

No one cared, no one slowed or looked at anyone else, even Cal blended in, just another figure on the street. Muttering about humans and their inherent selfishness and his brother for just… being Cri. He turned off the main street and started through a nearby park. It was apparently the Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano but Cal didn’t really care for architecture or a manicured garden; he just wanted to vent all his frustration.

Stomping through the gardens he turned to look left and right and started left, a part of him wanted to leave the path and kick and shred his way through one of the pointless flower displays but that would have been rude. With a disgruntled sigh he turned down a side path, stormed between the open posts of a fence and out onto the side of a busy road. Buses and cars, bikes and taxis were zipping back and forth and glossy, fancy looking shops lined the road in both directions.

Taking a deep breath Cal tried to calm his emotions, running his paws down his ears to smooth out the frazzled fur. Whilst he was making himself presentable a familiar voice called out from behind and he turned to look as Kathy jogged over to him.

“Cal… gosh…” she slowed down, panting and leant against a postbox, gulping down lungfulls of air, “You walk fast, I nearly lost you when you went into the park.”

“Sorry I… I just had to get away from there…” Cal said with a sigh, slumping his shoulder, “I love my brother but he still treats me like nothing has changed.”

“Well he’s an idiot,” Kathy said, “I gave him and Ki a piece of my mind before I came after you.”

“You really didn’t have to,” Cal replied, trying not to panic at that idea, “It’s our family business, you don’t need to get involved.”

“Of course I do,” Kathy said, shaking her head and laying a hand on Cal’s head, “You are my friend, it's our duty to speak up if we see someone being shitty and your brother was being extra shitty!”

Cal sighed and shook his head, “He… wasn’t shitty, just… oblivious, he’s so smart and clever he doesn’t notice social stuff is all.”

“Well…” Kathy folded her arms and shook her head, “In that case it falls to the rest of us to step up and point this out to him, what were your Avali friends thinking?”

“I dunno,” Cal sighed, “They probably had some reason, they are really smart and our ship's AI Ifelse is even smarter and they all have something called the Oracle to talk to, so they probably had some complicated plan.”

“An Avali plan, typical,” Kathy shook her head, “I read, I know a lot about the Avali, they are so smart but they can get a bit up themselves relying on their technology and don’t consider the emotional aspects as much as they should.”

“Wha…” Cal stared up at Kathy, “But they are so emotional and open, way more than my people are, we have to be reserved, we are taught not to form connections from a young age because so many of us get eaten… me and Cri being so close is abnormal back home.”

“Ugh that is just the worst,” Kathy sighed and smiled down at Cal, “But… yes the Avali are friendly and emotional but usually amongst their pack and close friends, but they still rely on the cold logic of their technology over interacting with others on a personable level.”

“I guess I haven’t seen that side of them,” Cal said quietly, “But yeah… I have been so… frustrated with Cri not learning, not changing, not treating me like an equal, for months and Firi and Selenu just told me it was best to wait and let Cri work it out for himself.”

“What nonsense,” Kathy huffed, “This may be a human thing but that sort of behaviour needs to be called out or people won’t learn and change.”

“Maybe,” Cal sighed again, “I just don’t like being at odds with my brother you know? Hopefully he will listen and we can talk more about this later.”

“Hopefully,” Kathy looked up and down the street, “So… shall we try and forget about your brother for a bit and enjoy Milan? We only have a few hours until the train leaves.”

“I guess,” Cal looked around the street, “I was thinking of going back and talking to Ki or calling Seinu or Firi but we could try and enjoy Milan.”

“Hey no pressure bun,” Kathy smiled, “But we are only here for a bit so lets give Cri some space and let the space chickens deal with him whilst we enjoy the city, we could go look at that Opera house he was so keen on visiting?”

“In the name of the Protector anything but that,” Cal laughed, “Can we go someplace local? Like for lunch or something? Not a tourist hell hole but a real look at the city.”

Kathy pulled out her phone and started to scroll through it, “Ok lets see what we can find, the issue as always is finding a real place away from the tourist areas…”

Cal touched his visor and started to scroll through search results on his end too, “Ok well if we walk north we can get out of the centre of town and start to get to the parts of the city real people live in.”

“Well then lets head north then,” Kathy said and turned off the busy street to start up the next tree lined boulevard, “Once we are out of the centre we can start searching for someplace to eat.”

Cal nodded and followed alongside Kathy, the pair of them chattering away as they left the bustling, tourist centre of the city behind them. After a few minutes Cal fell silent and just let himself absorb the unique and alien architecture and nature of the human city. It was fascinating to him to see how much it all differed, even in the same city the style and construction of buildings varied. They crossed over a big traffic junction and entered a series of smaller streets lined with quieter shops. It was much nicer in Cal’s opinion, with less humans and conflicting smells as they explored and looked around with interest.

The pair of them stopped at an intersection and started to compare locations from their search results, chattering about what type of food they wanted to try and reading the reviews.

“I think the Italian restaurant sounds nicest since we’re here in Italy,” Cal said tapping his visor to project an image of the menu, “They have a wide variety of traditional local cuisine.”

“It does sound tempting,” Kathy said, she then tapped her screen, “But this Lombard style steak restaurant sounds really unique too.”

“Well… I do like steak,” Cal chuckled, “We only ever got to eat bugs at home or fruit, so Human Style Steak was a new experience, though apparently me wanting it Blue or what’s it called Blue-Rare made the last steak place we ate at freak out a bit.”

“Oh, why so?”

“Well they were worrying about whether or not it was safe to serve nearly uncooked meat to us Alien visitors,” Cal laughed, “But it was really tasty, Seinu had his well-done which was like a crime! It looked charred and burnt and smelt it too! But he said it was tastier for him cooked.”

“Well well-done steak is a contentious topic,” Kathy said with a firm nod, “But everyone likes it a different way, that is what makes it so special, but we can do Italian if you don’t fancy steak.”

Cal frowned, switching his holographic projection to the display of the steak places menu, he was swiping through it when with a screech of rubber a large silver van rolled to a stop right behind them. Cal half turned to look at the vehicle and gaped in surprise as the back doors clanged open and four humans jumped out.

They were dressed in plain suits and as a group they surged forward. One of them knocked Kathy aside and she went sprawling. Cal tried to move to help her but the four men grabbed him and lifted his feet off the floor. One of them grabbed his visor, the short-range protection system was trying to formulate a force field to protect him but it was designed to stopped in-coming objects and small arms fire, if they had thrown something at him it would have activated instantly. It wasn’t in priority mode against Cal being man-handled so it didn’t go off if he got jostled in a crowd, so the human was able to tug it off his head easily.

The bunny chirped angrily in bunny song, balled one of his fists up and twatted the men who’d yanked off his visor upside the head. They crumpled to the ground but the other three had a good grip on him and tossed him into the back of the van. It all happened so quickly he didn’t have time to react as he sailed through the air and landed with a thump inside a metal container.

Cal tried to jump but a human lurking inside the van slammed the cage shut and the bunny thumped into it. He growled at them, showing off his teeth as he tried to force the bars to open, something that he found to be impossible since the higher gravity of the planet made him feel a bit weaker. It was all happening so quickly, the humans piled into the van dragging the unconscious human and his visor with them. The last glimpse Cal got of the outside world was Kathy stumbling back to her feet. She shouted his name then the van doors thumped shut and the vehicle started moving.

“Well … fuck,” Cal chirped as he stared up at his captors, this was not how he had expected the day to go.

Kathy watched in shock as the van sped off, “Did that just really happen…” she stared after the escaping van and then thought to try and take a photo of it. Only to discover one of the thugs who had just nabbed Cal had taken her phone with them, “Bastards,” she screamed after them as several other people on the street hurried over to ask if she was ok.

“Si, Si,” she shouted at them and started to run back the way she had come, she had to reach Ki and Cri back on the train and tell them what had just happened! It had all happened so fast, one minute they had been talking about restaurants the next Cal had been grabbed!

It was unbelievable and they had ham-strung her by stealing her phone. She couldn’t even call for help! Sure one of the other people on the street would have a phone but the police wouldn’t be any help, what she needed was the Avali and their technology to track that van and get Cal back! Not to mention how much of a massive incident this was going to turn into!

Head down Kathy sped up, racing around pedestrians and charging across an intersection as she headed for the train station, she had to get help and fast!

To be continued…
